A consummate brand management thought leader, Aliu has made remarkable strides in his over three decades of trail blazing career in integrated marketing communications. He was the pioneer head of corporate affairs of NUB International Bank Ltd., a legacy institution of FCMB Plc, where he successfully managed the rebranding and repositioning of the hitherto comatose Nigeria Universal Bank. In this portfolio, he also led teams that executed customer-centric products development, brand innovations, experiential marketing, events activation and international stakeholders’ relationship management.
Aliu was General Manager of Vascaust Communications Limited, an agency offering PR and Advertising consulting as well as media planning and buying for a range of blue-chip companies. Before then, he had a sojourn at the Institute of Mass Communication & Technology, Jos, where he taught courses in Public Relations and Advertising.
He was on the board of ABC Transport Plc for about seven years during which period he served as Chairman of Board Committee on Governance and Establishments. He also recorded tremendous accomplishments in social engagement and volunteering. For ten years, he served as secretary to the Jury for African of the Year, a pan-African award project, chaired by H.E., Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, former Prime Minister of Tanzania. He served extra one year under the chairmanship of H.E., Mr. Festus Mogae, former President of Botswana, and attended all meetings that were held in capital cities across Africa.
Aliu holds a B.Sc. in Mass Communication and M.Sc. in International Relations & Strategic Studies. He has attended executive training on strategic leadership at the University of Oxford, UK; Howard University School of Business, Washington DC; and the Lagos Business School/Pan Atlantic University. A keen golf player, he is a member of Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM, (Chartered); Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR; and a registered practitioner of advertising certified by APCON
